what happens in IE?

i assume tabela is a table element. if so, you need to have rowtb =
document.createElement('tr'), not 'table'.

you cant append a "td" directly to a "table". you have to append a
"td" to a "tr".

That is because Firefox is wrong and, in this instance, IE is right.

Don't use setAttribute, set the property directly.

And, by specs, you have to append a TR to a TBODY. FF is lax here and
creates the TBODY for you, IE doesn't. The specs say you create the
TBODY and append the TR to it.

i was going to mention that, but if he's trying to append a td to a
table, i dont think he's ready for tbody, thead, and tfoot.

Assuming that tabela is a TABLE element and you add code to create a TR
it still won't work properly in IE until you add the code to create and
append a TBODY so why not go ahead and mention it? At the very least, it
would keep the OP from replying and saying "OK, brunascle, I made your
changes and it still doesn't work in IE"

Where do you read that? I ask this because I filed a bug regarding IE6
and IE7 on this.

On another closely related issue, this file:

http://www.gtalbot.org/BrowserBugsSe...otWorking.html

listed as item #22 at

http://www.gtalbot.org/BrowserBugsSection/MSIE7Bugs/

fails in MSIE6 and MSIE7.
Despite creating and inserting <trto it, MSIE7 will have a runtime error.

var tabela = document.getElementById('oData');
var rowtb = document.createElement('table');
Assuming tabela is a table element:

var rowtb = tabela.insertRow(-1);

rowtb.setAttribute('border', '1');

var coltb = document.createElement('td');
var coltb = rowtb.insertCell(-1);

coltb.appendChild(document.createTextNode("Alias") );

rowtb.appendChild(coltb);
tabela.appendChild(rowtb);
If you use insertRow/Cell, the elements are appended immediately so
there is no need to append them separately.
