how to use JS to save users game progress using a cookie...

P: 785
I don't understand how to write a JavaScript to save the users progress in a game, so they can go back to the game at a later time. There is two games that really need this functionality, a php jigsaw puzzle, and a role playing puzzler game combining image maps and several games (written by others) that are held together by a common story line and goal, and probably won't be in frames. (No link available yet, as I'm still working on it.)

The game jigsaw puzzle link

I do have the given link on a page within iframes, but the link is to the php code. Does the link to the js file that records the cookie, go on the php page or the frame page?
And what would the source code be for such a code?
I'm still learning JS, and don't know any php. I also don't understand cookie codes yet.
Thanks! :)
