XMl chunk parsing problem in Javascript for IE6 or IE7

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post here.

I am trying to parse a xml chunk returned by server as a response of ajax type request in this way:

    if (window.ActiveXObject)
      {
          var doc=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM");
          doc.async="false";
          doc.loadXML(exactResponse);
      }
    // code for Mozilla, Firefox, Opera, etc.
    else
      {
          var parser=new DOMParser();        
          var doc=parser.parseFromString(exactResponse,"text/xml");
      }
 

The problem is that it is not working in IE6 or IE7.
Can anyone tell me to get around this problem?
I need it badly:(

If it's valid XML, it should be returned in the responseXML property.
