Drawing arectangle and resize according to mouse movement

How to draw a rectangle using Javascript on the aspx page. This is like a selector control box. from the point of Mouse down till we release th mouse, it should draw the rectangle. Just like selecting all the items under the rectangle.

Drawing a rectangle is not a problem, but the size has to stretch both vertically and horizontally in equal proportionate.

Please help me to solve this problem. Thanks in advance.

Regards
Mukilan.

hi ...

before we make an attempt one thing to mention: we only could create a div or another html-element that would appear on the page ... could you tell what purpose it should serve? ... should it contain something or collect everything what is 'below' it ... the result would be a simple layer in any case! that would overlay the page ... so we should know what we want to do with it later on and evaluate whether the solution would work or not for the 'real' purpose?

kind regards
