Disabling parent window

Hi All,
I am opening one new window from the current window....
Can any one help me to disable the parent window after opening the new
window....
and at the same time i want to enable the parent window after closing
the new window.

IE has showModalDialog method but AFAIK no other UA supports it.

The best cross-browser modal dialog I found so far is:

The advantage to Richard's is degradability when scripting is disabled.
Try yours with script disabled.
