Position of cursor

Is there a function/method that will return the xy coordinates of
the cursor? Alternatively, can anyone tell me how to get them?

IE6

Reason: I want to make pop-up windows appear on the fly,
directly under the cursor onmouseover a link or an image.

I hope you mean the mousepointer.

The cursor only appears in writable fields.
