Ajax session

Hi, i'm new to ajax and javascript.

i would like to login in a webapp and to keep the session until i
logout.
The webapp is developed in asp and return a cookie after login.
I'm already develovep a client java that login in this webapp and to
keep session and interact with app i just setCookie in urlconnection
with a substring getted from the cookie.

The operation that i need to execute are:

1) login
2) getxml from site polling. Could be more calling of this methos, each
of them caused by user request.
3) logout

In java each getXML calling user connection.setCookie to use the opened
session.

How i can do this with ajax?
i need to use only a XMLHTTPRequest or i can use multiple instance?
is possible to setCookie in XMLHTTPRequest?

thanks to anyone that will help me...
and excuse for my english.

I don't quite understand most of what you are trying to do, but in
regards to
is possible to setCookie in XMLHTTPRequest?

an ajax request isn't any different than any other page. Any cookies
are automatically sent along with the request and any cookies sent by
the server are used by the browser.
