event.clientY is not consistent

I have a web page which has two parts to it. On one part, you can drag
and drop divs, similar to http://www.google.com/ig. On the second part
of the page you can dynamically add blocks of divs or remove blocks of
divs.

When the page is loaded up fresh and you try to drag and drop, I can
put my mouse at one spot and I can check event.clientY. If I go to the
section where you can delete and add divs and I do any combination of
adds and deletes, and then go back to the drag and drop area and put my
mouse in the same exact place that I did initially, event.clientY
returns a different number.

This is throwing a big problem in to my app and I have not been able to
figure out why. Has anyone seen this happen? This happens in both IE
6 and Firefox 1.0.7. If anyone has any suggestions or has seen this
and fixed it, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Morry

Is the element in the same spot on the page? Has the page been scrolled
any? I couldn't quite tell you what the problem is without looking at
the code (got a prototype url?) but these are the first two things to
pop into my mind.
