fetch in firefox

Is there a way to open a URL invisibly, then get the source code of the
page? I would like to put the source code of a URL into a variable without
actually opening the URL in a browser.

thanks in advance!

XMLHTTP is probably what your looking for, although if you
want to get data from different servers than the one your script is
on , you may need a server side script that can proxy the request cross
domain
