dynamic graphical map

hi all,

I need a web page showing a graphical map whose
informations are rapresented by various icons and
are updated depending on informations
present in the server.

the page should show and update the status in realtime,
without user pressing any key
i.e: the browser should show the map, and then should
(via javascript or other) ask ad regular intervals (1s)
the variables values from the server and update the graphical
output.

Is javascript idoneous to do such a thing?
if so, is there some example somewhere?
if not, what tool should I evaluate to resolve
my problem (and which newsgroup is better to ask to?)

thanks
giammy

You could use the META-REFRESH tag (if the user allows it) or reload();
(if the user allows javascript)

Is doable with js and a heapload of iframes doing reloding, but is
soooooooo counterproductive. What you want is JAVA.
