Read a URL as a stream

P: n/a
Hi all:

Is it possible to use JavaScript to read a URL as a stream, so the contests
returned from the URL can be stored in a string variable?

Thanks.

John.

The contents of a document loaded from the same domain as the script can
be retrieved into a string variable in IE and Gecko-based browsers using
the XML HTTPRequest object.
