Alter download filename when downloading over CGI

Hello,

I'm currently writing a cgi program in perl (target platform will be
win32/IIS) that will act as a fileserver.

One of the scripts will display a page with the files available to that
particular user. All the files are links to another cgi script, which
will send the files to the user.

The problem is the filename - I need to be able to have the save as box
have the filename of the file, not the cgi script. I was hoping there's a
way in javascript to do this, but It's been years since I've touched
javascript. A general pointer in the right direction will be helpful -
I've got a book on it, but it's as thick as a VAX manual.

(Just to preemt any suggestions, web server authentication is not an
option, so I need this script to interface with the database for
authentication. The files themselves won't be in the web directories or
whatever they call them on IIS. And no, it's not for warez.)

Thanx,
spauldo

OK, I skipped over that entry before while I was scanning the FAQ.

Unfortunately, that approach (http://jibbering.com/faq/#FAQ4_33) only
works in IE. Is there no other way to alter the filename it will try to
save?

No, it works in Mozilla and others too.

Ah, ok. The FAQ states it's an IE thing. I'll give that a shot, then.
Thanx.

I think it may have been when the faq entry was originally written,
it's not a netscape 4 thing, but many other browsers do it, I've not
recently checked which though.

<FAQENTRY>, check and update.
