client graphics application langauges

I'm familiar with applets written in Java. Are there any other
languages in which clientside applications can be written and embedded
in HTML pages that could implement a 3-d Rubik's cube? Or does Java
have a monopoly on that?

heck, you could do it in javascript without problems. just depends on
your math skills ;)
