Modifying table scroll script by Richard Cornford

I'm trying to figure out why the script that Richard Cornford wrote to
scroll a table loses the column headers when you add a row header. For
example:

<table>
<tr>
<th>Name</th>
<th>City</th>
<th>State</th>
</tr>
<tr>
<th>Les</th>
<td>Albany</th>
<td>New York</th>
</tr>
<tr>
<th>John</th>
<td>Los Angeles</th>
<td>Californi a</th>
</tr>
</table>

The "Name" column header disappears because the names are in <th> cells.
Anyone have an idea how to change the script so that the headers show up?
Please let me know. Thanks!

Is a 'header' in the top left cell of a table with column headers and
row headers a 'mata' header for the column that it is above or a 'meta'
header for the row that it is next to? The situation is ambiguous and my
decision was to not script for it. That and because including it would
add to the complexity of that part of the DOM and the script by one
third, and start to make other strategies look preferable.

<snip> <td>Albany</th>

<snip>

An opening TD tag and a closing TH tag?

Richard.

I'm new to DOM and can't figure out this thing: I'm trying to add a row to a table with a form field in one of it's cells, but if I'm appending the field to a form it gets out of the table. Can some one tell me what I'm doing wrong? it looks like this: var tbl=document.tbl; var frm=document.frm; var newcell=document.createElement("TD");

I'm looking for the best JS/CSS solution to add functionality to tables. The only browser which needs to be supported is IE5.5+, but no activeX can be used. to be able to do: - Fixed header row - Data sorting (preferrably intelligently determining data type based on content) - If possible, locking the first column from scrolling

This is a common requirement - "freeze panes" in a table, so that some header rows and some columns on the left are frozen while the body content scrolls. This makes large tables more usable on screen. There are a number of solutions available. For example, http://www.litotes.demon.co.uk/example_scripts/tableScroll.html I'm just wondering...

I'm using Richard Cornford's table scroll script (http://www.litotes.demon.co.uk/example_scripts/tableScroll.html), and I've discovered that I can "freeze" as many cells as I want by making them "th" tags instead of "td" tags. I want to have the left 3/4 of the table frozen while scrolling the last 1/4 on the right...and that's where I ran...
