Subclass not recognizing Superclass in same package

I created a package named P1. I created 2 classes "protection" and "derived" where "derived" is subclass of "protection". I put both the .java files in C:\java\p1 folder. Class "protection" is successfully compiling but class "derived" isn't. Its not able to recognizing the name "protection". I've even tried to import. Both are in same folder and in same package. PLEASE HELP... :/
