Web-enabled versus Web-based?

What is the difference between a web-enabled application versus a web-based application?

That's a good question. Though it sounded like a similar term, there IS a difference.

Web-enabled : The application has a provision to be accessible via web (a browser). That means it has got other modes of accessibilities as well (for example through other protocols or a thick client etc.,)

Web-based: The entire application is developed on a web interface. That means through browser is what you can access.

Browser is just a client. The correct and formal definition would be "you can access the application only through web (Internet/Intranet)".
