how to retrieve single value form database without using result set.
like i need only integer max(acc_id) from database and need to store in a variable

Why don't you want to use a resultset?

If you are using the JDBC, I see no way around using a ResultSet -- in your case it will have one row and one column. Bite the bullet and write the code.
