The question appears vague to me. Do you want us to compare struts, ejb and swing or what? Can you shed more light.

First thing you have to decide whether you want a web application (JSPs,Servlets) or a desktop application.

You need to choose first whether you want to create a web based application or a desktop application. Figure out the advantages of using a web-based over a desktop application and vise versa. Generally , Swing is used for the GUIs , EJB for persistence and struts is used for developing web based applications using j2ee. Perhaps this is the starting point. The three may need to complement each other.
