Hi,

does anybody know how to change the character set so that arabic characters don't show up as '?' (questionmarks).

Thanks.

Your string is in arabic character set Windows-1256 and not in Windows-1252. You need to give the correct character set when reading in the characters, or you convert them later with:
String s = new String(source.getBytes("Windows-1256"));
