How to do animation

Hey,

I have a typical university assignment that I could really do with a bit of help on, since my lecturers don't seam to be botherd. The criteria state that I must use ONLY the elements package by Baily & Baily: http://www.cs.williams.edu/~bailey/JavaElements/ and ONLY the drawing window from it. I must also import the java.awt.Color package to utilise color. The assignment states that I must create a complex image, add color and get it animated - have it move accross screen or have parts move. Furthermore I must do my best to break the code down into seperate methods to disply my knowlage of stepwise refinement.

I can draw an image alright just from the main method, my problems come from being unable to break it down into seperate methods / add loops and then get it animated. I theorised that I could possibly state a global variable but I cant manipulate it at my current skill level. I know only very basic java codeing so far and everyone on my course considers this assignment to be quite difficult.

One further point - there can only be one class file in the submission .. so all the code must be inline - this eliminates the possibility to use threading I think?

Ideas for the animation: Could be a bill board advertisement that can do complex things such as chainging its background color. Possibly a car traveling along a road with the background passing by (stationary car, moveing backdrop of shapes defined in methods?).

I thank you in advance for your time and any help atall that you can offer me. I really apprechiate it.
