Replacing text in a file

Hi all,
i need some help, i have a file which contain names of proteins and i want to replace the names with numbers>for example i have name of protein
YNL240 ================
YL5c024===============
and so on,
what i need ,replace the name with number and it will look like
1==========
2==========
and so on
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
please if some can help the deadlines of HW is tomrrow at 12 pm

If I were you I'd look into regex. Using the Matcher class' replace methods you should be able to accomplish what you want. It is explained here:

Your thread title says (important). You should have chosen a thread title that best describes your problem. Everyone else's problem is just as important as yours. You can see the site guidelines for more details on this.
Why don't you just read the whole file into a StringBuilder, then do the replace there and write the contents back to the file.
