Hi

Flow lay out manager will display components from left to right in the given sequence. All components will resize with the rwsizing of applet window.

Simply take a look at this page: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/layout/howLayoutWorks.html

It talks specifically about component's sizes in layout managers and talks about specific ones and how they handle the preferred size. Flow layout is probably what you're looking for though. Still, look at the demo to see how it works...
