Finding averages for responses answered

1
Hello,
Would any of you happen to know the code for finding the average of responses to a survey? For example, there are 6 questions. Normally, I'd sum the 6 scores and divide it by 6. However, some respondents may only answer 5 questions. In that case, I'd take the sum of 5 and divide it by 5. My problem is that the DatStat program I'm using only allows for one calculation. So, I'm guessing there's an 'if' statement needed somewhere in my coding. Could you please advise?

Thank-you,
