advanced file modification in java

2,476 2GB
suppose i open a file in write mode.
if the file exists then the new content will be overwritten and the file opened in append mode then the exsiting file content will be appended.

can't i do like this ????? .... that i reposition the file pointer and modify some content in between some contents of the file.

i think this is not possible in java.
but could anyone tell me that why java does not support this?
because SUN had that in their mind ... yet they not provided this.why?????

plz help.
kind regards.
