java -classpath problems

i have to learn java for college and im trying to do a programming assignment at home. in class we use a class file called InOut which simplifys input and output but i can't get the compiler to see the classfile this is the compiler output:
(the file InOut.class in in /jclass)

me@mycomputer:~/docs/programming/JAVA$ javac -verbose -classpath /jclass
[parsing - #1/1]
[reading java/lang/Object.class]
[analyzing - #1/1]
[reading java/lang/String.class]
[reading java/lang/System.class]
[reading java/io/PrintStream.class]
[reading InOut.class]
1. ERROR in (at line 2)
import InOut;
The import InOut cannot be resolved

the progrm goes as so:

input InOut;

class iotest{
public static void main (String[] args){

input 2 numbers, multiply them and output simply to test the InOut
