crash serialcomm in java ??

hello,
i am controlling a device via java serial. and use this routine to read from commport.

while (inputStream.available() > 0){
inputStream.read(buf);
}

sometimes, my program crashs in this "inputStream.read(buf);" statement and
always waiting here.
how can i solve this problem ?
