ejb3 - parameterizing orderby?

It appears that ejb3 doesn't support parameterizing orderby in a query.
It's gotten to the point that because of that, we have hundreds of
queries to maintain. Do I understand correctly or is there an
alternative (short of doing sorting in the frontend via
JSF, which we are considering down the road).
