I want to detect the version of the JVM that is being used by the

possilbe).
I have searched around the web for such a program, however it seems
that all I can find is people that have done it by means of a Java
appplet. This is all very well, but it doesn't help me because I want
to return the result (version & Supplier) to the browser to fill in a
webform. I would prefer if this could be done in Javascript.
This is fairly simple in netscape because navigator.plugins is
populated with the info that I want. However Microsoft haven't
implemented this in IE. So it doesn't work in IE.
Does anybody know a simple way of doing this that a NON-Java developer
could use?
thanks

I'm assuming you're trying to get a person to send you this information.
Why not use one of those applets, and have it fill a hidden field in the
form? That will pretty much cover all browsers that support liveconnect.
If it doesn't support liveconnect, then you can just show the results in
the applet and let them copy it over. There isn't a way in javascript
(that I know of). I know there is some lame javaEnabled field somewhere
but it doesn't mean they even have java installed. Just that if it were
installed, it would be enabled.
How this helps.
