Java and mac Osx panther - help

Newbie to the Osx platform.

I need to download the JDK 1.4x but on the Sun site it points you to the .mac
site which you have to pay to get membership.

How does one go about downloading the J2se and j2ee sdk's for the OSx
platform?

Thanks.

No, you do not have to pay. You do have to sign up at
http://connect.apple.com and then download the developer tools.

It is very likely that you already have the developer tools; they might
have come on a separate disc with your computer, or there may be an
installer in /Applications/Installers. Otherwise download them for free.
