1) what is the curent SDK for java 2?
2) what is with the request for the password?

The current release version is 1.4.2_04. In order to donwload the JDK Sun
optionally invites you to be a member of Sun Developer Network for free.

i was refuring to the request i receved for a administrater password
when I instaled it

Could you specify which installation step that this is encountered? AFAIK it
does not request for Administrator password unless you are installing SUN
ONE Server which comes with J2EE SDK.
