Any Java stuff for creating games?

tmb
I want to have some games in an application I'm considering.

I see game creation stuff on the web...

anything best suited for Java... or written with Java?

Of course, we could do 'em from scratch but certainly someone has already
created a tool or whatever to make it faster and easier.

Oh, and we need to be able to use the games we create without restrictions
and royality free... like 3impact.com or Game Maker or whatever...

And, we need to be able to launch the game in our program and not have it
launch another window...

Stand-alone application and web based... and multi-platform... so those are
all considerations.

thanks for any help - tmb

there have many success stories in people creating games with java, just
as you have described, one of the more interesting ones that i have seen
has been one that actually ran a mips emulator inside the java applet
that allowed it to run all the old arcade games like missle command, pac
man, donkey kong and the like

also, the java2d engine is very flexible, well suited for writing
graphical intensive applications, in fact, i believe the lastest release
of java (1.4 on but correct me on this) is designed to support hardware
level 3d acceleration...
