Its pretty much simple stick to the java.awt.* package

im no GUI guro so correct me if im wrong

Install a JRE on every PC. Let me know when you finish so you can go back
and start upgrading them to the then newest release.

You also need to use an old version of Java, 1.0 maybe.

I agree - use Applet (not JApplet), use Button - not JButton, etc.
in other words - don't use swing, and you should be ok for the most part.
