Project idea Art package for Java

P: n/a
Later this year I will starting the final part of my MEng Software
Engineering degree. A requirement of the final year is to do a major
project where I am required to write an application of my choice. At
the end of the project I hope to release the application as an
open-source application.

I am currently concidering writting a cross platform art package using
Java technology, however I do not currently know if there is any call
for such an application, or what features people would be interested
in.

The current feature which I am concidering are:
- Vector and raster support in images
- Extendable filters framework
- Extendable image tools
- Colour picker
- History
- Layer control
- Effects and browser
- Support to update features online
- Framework allowing multi-file formats, and to allow future
developers to plugin new components allowing new formats to the
framework
- Extendable framework allowing developers to easily plug-in new
features

As a base I am currently using PhotoShop, PaintShop Pro and Microsoft
Paint for suggested features which could be usefull to clients,
however I am open to new suggestions as everyone has different tastes
and ways of working.

Yours sincerely,
Christopher Peerman.
