path to file

Is it possible to retrieve and pass the entire path to a file. ie. you
search for a file on your hard drive using a form (<input type="file">)
you then submit the form which passes the file path to an applet use to
view the file/image.

<input type="file"> doesn't send just the file name. It sends the whole
file. Search the net for "oreilly multipartrequest" to find a Java class
that will let you work with a file submitted that way. As far as using forms
with applets, dunno about that one. Forms are generally used with some type
of server side technology like JSPs or servlets. As far as an applet reading
a file not on the server it originated from, I understand you have to do
some pretty serious security stuff. That's all I know about that.
