max size of virtual memory

Hi

Does anybody known about max size of virtual memory
which JVM can allocate in WinXP and what it depends on.

With parameter -Xmx I can take 1696 Mb. But if I need more???

Any suggestions

You may have to go for a 64 bit platform, but even then do not expect to go
far - I have seen 3GB limit on 64 bit Solaris running on expensive servers.
Plus there is a substantial performance penalty when going for more RAM -
the GC tends to take a few seconds...

Having a program that needs many GB of memory sounds fishy, consider another
one.

Dobromir
