Programming and selling java applications.

What are the rules/laws in regards to building an application based in java
and then selling that application ? Are there hidden costs or fee's that
must be paid to SUN before one may comence sales ?

No, you don't have to pay royalties to Sun. You do have to abide by
their rules if you plan on distributing a JVM with your application.
Look at the README.txt and the LICENSE file in your Java home
directory, it's all spelled out there. Basically, if you want to
distribute the JVM, you have to distribute the entire JVM... no
removing files or classes that you don't need (there are a few
optional files).
