how to do it better????

i am taking a date/time value from sql server databse and need to
compare with it another data value(current time).

the problem is that i am losing the time part of date when getting it
in java.sql.date from database.

how can i get the value from database in java.util.Date (to preserve
the time part) so that i can compare the two date/times.

thanx in advance

Get a java.sql.Timestamp from the database, get the java.util.Date from it
(by calling getTime()) and then comparing it with the date you have (equals
method). This compares up to milliseconds.
