Getting the home directory

Is there an API function to get the user's home directory path in Java?
I'd like to save a configuration file in it.

For a user named "myUser", I would get

/home/myUser
on Linux

C:\Documents and Settings\myUser
on Win32

.... etc.

Nevermind. java.util.prefs.Preferences seems to be exactly what I'm
looking for.
