Help!! Ignorable whitespaces!

I have a dom tree created from an XML document but it shows whitespaces as
Textnodes!! Pls tell me how to get rid of them

I tried ...

factory.setIgnoringElementContentWhitespace(true); but it doesnt work!

Help me please
