import javax.servlet.* => package does not exist

Good afternoon.

I just installed j2sdk SE 1.4.2.

I downloaded the servlet classes alone, not within the Web development
product.

On another machine I was using the standalone servlet class (in a jar file)
with j2sdk SE 1.4.1 without any problems.

I've spent all day trying to get this to work, changing classpath, moving
directories around, putting the loaded classes in jar files, and so on, to
no avail.

Any wisdom out there that might be applicable?

Thanks.
