Running IIS 7 over VPN

Hi,

I have a Vista Business laptop and am using IIS 7.0 as my local web server. This was working fine with all my php sites and all was marvellous while the code was on my laptop.

However, we have recently implements a VPN which means all my code is now on a server, this is much better for backup purposes etc but I can no longer get IIS to work.

I have a S drive now, which is on the server and this where all the code is. I have set up IIS to point at this location for the latest web project and was hoping that would be that. However, on loading localhost/login.php all I get is a 404 error.

The physical path listed is corrected, the file name is fine and it does exist.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me? It's driving me mad.

Cheers

Its logical when you think about it, S is a mapped drive on your laptop and means nothing to the server. You are not literally trying to IIS over VPN? Use the local drives and IIS on the server. HTH.

Hi,

Thanks for the tip. I am currently running IIS over the VPN, or at least trying. I'm sure I managed to do this over a normal network in a previous job.

The thing is the source code has to sit on the server which is in a different part of town - I work from home. I then need to be able to test the code to ensure it is working.

I must admit I didn't quire follow you when you said about running IIS on the server and using the local drives. Is that just the opposite of what I am trying to achieve at present?

Cheers

All I know is that you run your files and IIS from the server it will work. Any other configuration you set up is outside the terms of reference in which I work.

Ah, that makes sense to me. As I think about it that is probably more like the configuration I had previously. Man, this means a trip to the office soon. Oh well.
