Hosting Multiple sites from one server.

71
I'm trying to get two websites up and running on a single Windows Server 2003 server. I've got one public IP address, and I've attempted to set up the headers to handle this.

Site1 has been up and running for a few years now, and works fine. I've added Site2, and gotten the pages all up and running. I've put together the header, and tried adding the Host (A) record - trying to mimic the working site for the second site info.

If I type in the URL into IE from inside the network the page comes up (which it didn't initially) so I'm assuming the host headers are atleast working in part. However when I try to type in the URL from a computer outside the network, the page won't come up.

I've tried running an nslookup on each site. For the first site I get the appropriate Server and Address information. For the second site (the new one) I get a DNS request timed out error, time out was 2 seconds.

Can anyone help me with things to look at regarding possible causes for this problem. If you need more information just let me know and I'll try and get it for you. Keep in mind that my experience with web server management/hosting is rather limited.

Also, if anyone knows some good website/book sources they could suggest I'd be open to any thoughts there. Thank you in advance for any help offered.

That's the walkthrough I used to set up the host header, I looked through one of the links as well and set up an MX record. I believe my problem is that it appears that the server is not responding to incoming 53 UDP or TCP connections.

Do you know of a walkthrough to set those up? see if that solves my problem...
