IIS Windows Authentication with Multiple Domains

1 New Member
I have a 7.5 IIS .net 4.0 web application, that is configured to use Windows authentication and has ASP.Net impersonation turned on and Anonymous Authentication is turned off. The server is in a different forest/domain to the users workstation but there is a trust relationship between each forest/domain.

When the user logins to the website the WindowsPrincipa l object returns the identity of the App pool.

Does anyone know what I might need to configure so that the users identity is passed to the server instead?

Thanks all in advance.

Howdy, I have a SQL server in a completely different forrest than the workstation I am running query analyzer on. However in query analyzer when I choose windows authentication I cannot manually specify "domain\username" as I could when mapping a file share across domains or forests. Is there any way around this without resorting to using SQL Server authentication? Thanks

Hi all, Can anyone point out some best practices for handling cookies with multiple domains aliases? The problem is that I've got a site with multiple domain aliases and I want them to all use the same cookie. This problem can arise with even one domain if you don't set the domain on the cookie correctly. For example: Don't set the domain to ".mydomain.com" (leave out the first ".". If user's come in from "mydomain.com" or if they...

I have various domains using the same application/assembly They differ in contents and design, based on a "site id", and get its information from an SQL server. Now I have to deploy the different "sites" to individual folders on the server, and set up the domains on IIS to point to these folders. If I do changes in the application, I have to deploy to all the different folders on the server.

Hi, I am developing an intranet portal and i have used Windows Authentication. The application is hosted on a windows 2003 server with .NET Framework 1.1. I have set the session timeout to 20 minutes in the web.config. The application is a reporting tool and at times there are some long running queries which may take 5-6 minutes to run . when my application(site) is accessed by users, few users are getting the windows authentication...

I am developing an application using ASP.NET 2.0. In this application, I need to provide customized database-driven interfaces based on the domain name that the user is accessing the application from. A list of these domains will be avialable in a data table. What is the most efficient way to determine which domain the application should respond for each time a page is requested. It would seem that executing a SQL query each time a...

Hi I am developing an intranet based ASP.NET application. Due to high security on site the application needs to run accross two separate domains (only http and https ports are open). The application autenticates users via a form and security info is held in a database table. When users are on either domain they have the same windows username, but the application server is only running on one domain.

Hi, i have a web application running on multiple web domains. I'm looking for the best way to cache data across these multiple domains. The System.Web.Caching.Cache only supports caching over a single domain and is therefore no help for me. Can anyone tell me what is the best way? COM+ ? Thanks for any hint Stefan

My web server is joined to a windows domain. This domain has trusts to many other different domains. Users access my web server from different domains which are the trusted domains. Is this possible to do without any other configuration? Will the web server know which domain to look for to authenticate? Any information on how to do this would be appreciated. Thank you.

hi does anybody know if it's possible to have a client belonging to their domain authenticate against our server belonging to another domain? we want to use something like integrated windows authentication to simplify the login process for a particular company/domain. i imagine the IIS server would have to know something about the client's server via a trust. any suggestions appreciated.

I am going crazy. This has been a problem now for over a year and I have yet to figure out what is causing it. I have a single server that is running multiple domains. For this example I will list four domains all of which have the phpinfo.php file in their root directories. However, only one of them has working PHP. What am I doing wrong? http://www.lyricvault.com/phpinfo.php http://www.paynephotos.com/phpinfo.php

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...

Hello I'm a network technician in training and I need your help. I am currently learning how to create and manage the different types of VPNs and I have a question about LAN-to-LAN VPNs. The last exercise I practiced was to create a LAN-to-LAN VPN between two Pfsense firewalls, by using IPSEC protocols. I succeeded, with both firewalls in the same network. But I'm wondering if it's possible to do the same thing, with 2 Pfsense firewalls...
