Howdy All, I have a Windows Service that often stops in its tracks with no exception and no explanation on our QA system. During testing on the development machine, it can handle any workload, and complete with no problems. Even during testing on another test machine, it can handle any workload, and complete with no problems. This behavior has been tested multiple times.

I have a C# Windows Service running as the NetworkService account because it needs to access a network share. As part of the service's initialization, I want the service to terminate, if an unrecoverable error occurs. When that case occurs, I create a ServiceController object and call the Stop() method. However - I get an exception thrown saying access denied. If I switch to using the LocalService account it works fine, but I lose...

Hi all! I have few questions regarding .net windows services 1. are onStart, onStop and other "system" events invoked in separate threads than msmq events? 2. if so, is there a way for the onStop event to wait with stopping the service until pending msmq events are finished? 3. if not, does that mean that the onStop event would actually be invoked after all pending events are finished?

Argh! This problem is driving me nuts! Can you help? In November of 2003, I installed a web service on Windows Server 2003 built in VB.NET for v1.1.4322 of the framework. It contains a timer (System.Timers.Timer) which has an interval of 24 hours. Actually, it reads a time like 2AM out of the config file, and calculates the time between the start of the service to 2AM, and sets the timer. When the timer expires, it re-reads the...

I have written two windows services: - service A does some crunching of local data files and uploads them to a central processing computer via http. - service B monitors a manifest file on a webserver to see if service A needs to be updated. What service B does if it sees their is an update for service A is to download a new copy of the service A executable, stop service A, replace the executable with the new copy, and start service B...

Hello everyone, I have made a service that starts timers when it starts. I have another windows form application that stops and starts the service. Do I need to deal with any started timers when the service stops? Being new at this service stuff, I don't know if it holds state or memory and I need to stop all active timers or if the magical gc will come along and help out. Thanks, I hope that makes sense.

Hi. I know my windows service works when i run it in debug mode on my dev machine. It also works in release mode on my dev machine. But, when I move the service to a production server, it exits immediately with a start/stop/nothing to do error. What could be wrong?

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Overview: Windows 11 and 10 have less user interface control over operating system update behaviour than previous versions of Windows. In Windows 11 and 10, there is no way to turn off the Windows Update option using the Control Panel or Settings app; it automatically checks for updates and installs any it finds, whether you like it or not. For most users, this new feature is actually very convenient. If you want to control the update process,...
