How IIS Server Comes to know that which web page is "Start Page" in any application?

5 New Member
Hi Pals,
I want to know about that how IIS Server comes to know about
the starting page of any application built in C# or Vb.NET.

Though in IDE, we are doing this by right clicking the selected web
page from application & choosing the "Set As Start Page".

But how IIS Server comes to know about it? I will appreciate if
any one help me in this...

Hi there,

You need to make a little configuration magic in IIS, lets assume your startup document is named as <xyz.aspx>, you need to add this file name to the startup document section of the IIS.

Right click on default website, select properties and click on document tab, you will have an option to add <xyz.aspx> as well as set the priority to the file by moving it up or down, hope it helps. Good luck & Take care.

1. in IIS look at the "properties " of the directory for which you want to see the start up page.

2. once the dialog box opens I am pretty sure you select the "documents" tab...if not just click through the tabs until the next step makes sense.

3. You should see a list of possible start pages i.e...

index.asp
default.asp
default.htm.... you get the picture

anyway,...
this is where you can set what page you want as your "default" start page.

for example:
if you wanted your default.aspx page to be the home page of your site...

you would put it at the top of the list or make it the only possible option for your start page...

also by doing this you can make links back to your home page look like this...
<a href="./">Home</a>
or with a query string
<a href="./?action=start"> Home</a>

instead of...
<a href="default.a spx>Home</a>
or with a query string
<a href="defautl.a spx?action=star t">Home</a>

Also, if you set a specific "Start Page" for your "root" directory in IIS, every time you make a NEW directory, IIS should apply the same settings.

hope this helps. let me know if it doesn't

cheers!

Go to Control Panel
Click Administrative Tools
Open your IIS
Right click Default Website
Click Properties
Go to Documents
Add the page you want to appear first
Put it at the top
Click Apply and OK

Hi There, I have a small ASP.NET application under development. I am using VS.NET 2002 (2003 upgrade is on the way) with .NET Framework 1.1. It is hosted on a web hosting service in the US. I am experiencing the "Viewstate corrupted" error message on a particular page, when that page is left for a period of time and I return to it again, and submit it again. The page in question has a drop-down list of various RSS news feeds I am...

The projects that are listed under "Open an Existing Project" on the "Projects" tab of the "Start Page" do not seem to update correctly when I open Start, Open or Save a project. Is there a way to change the projects that appear on this tab? I've searched the help files several times without finding anything that seems to be relevant but then VS2003_HELP_STINKS so I may have missed something.

Is there a way to set the "start in" folder for a windows service? I am running under the Local System account, and the start in folder seems to be "c:\windows\system32". I use some relative filenames in my application and would really like the start in folder to be something more like "c:\apps\myservice". I've looked at the ServiceInstaller class and ServiceProcessInstaller class but they don't seem to have this option.

Hello, I have a problem declaring variables. I need to create an object oRpte as ReportClass on WebForm1.aspx and be able to use its value on WebForm2.aspx. For declaring the property oRpte() on WebForm1.aspx, I use "Public Property" and I declare variable _oRpte as Friend Shared. That's my problem. If I don't declare _oRpte as Friend Shared, I can't use WebForm1.oRpte() on other webpage. If I declare _oRpte as Friend Shared, I can use...

Sometimes when I After I click "Start Debugging" I get a "File not Found" Exception. Could not load file or assembly 'FormTesting, Version=1.0.2646.36738, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. Usually this happen right after (or maybe while) the Output window is showing the projects the IDE is checking.

We recently upgraded to VS 2008 and for some reason, the environment does not show "Start Page" in full screen mode even when setting in Environment -Startup is set to "Show Start Page". It does show Start Page in normal mode but not in full screen mode. Does anyone happen to notice similar issue and able to fix it? Thanks, Hetal.

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
