Problems accessing my web app over a network

2 New Member
Hi Guys

I've set up a web app on my machine using IIS and XP Pro. I can access the site using my machine (http://localhost/appName) no problems, but when I try and access this app using another machine over the network (http://192.XXX.X.X/appName) it just times out.

Any ideas what the problem would be?

I've just changed machine, previous to this I was running windows 2000 and I could access the app over the network with no problems.

Any help would be much appreciated

Kind Regards

Terry

Hi there,

Make sure the IIS_URS is given <read/write> permission on folder of your application. Good luck & Take care.

Hi Terry,
I've had the exact same problem. I'm not keen to disable the firewall. So you can activate the firewall again, but this time select the advanced tab then select the Local Area Connection - > Settings
Tick the Web Server (HTTP) and click OK.
Close everything and you should have IIS running with Firewall enabled.

There are then other problems especially when you create virtual directories, but I'm sure someone will be able to help.

Cheers

Hi,

I am still facing the same problem. Is there any work around without removing the firewall? The IIS_USR doesn't seem to exist. Where would i find it?

Thanks

Have you tried adding specific applications to the "Exceptions " of the windows firewall?

Sometimes you have to specify that certain applications are allowed through the firewall ...I remember I had to add IE to this at one time.

Hi All, I am trying to access a mapped network drive from a service that I have created. The service needs to create/delete folders/files on a network drive. When I tried to connect to a folder on mapped network drive (eg. N:\Storage that corresponds to \\FS1NS\SharedDir\), I get an error as "Could not find part of path N:\".

So my suggestion is make the program for accessing network drive in console apps, then call it with your windows service.. via windows API ..he..he that should work. Public Declare Function ShellExecute Lib "shell32.dll" Alias "ShellExecuteA" (ByVal hwnd As Long, ByVal lpOperation As...

I have written a winforms application that launches approximately 150 threads with Thread.ThreadStart() Each thread uses CDO 1.21 to logon to a different Exchange mailbox and send/receive a number of mail messages, reporting back to the UI thread through the use of a Queue object. When all messages that are expected have been received, each thread sends a final update to the UI and the method should exit, which should terminate the...

Hello folks, I am unable to find appropriate documentation on the type promotion of bit-fields when using the generalised comparison operator "<=>". The problem is that using the GNU compilers, it seems that the internal comparison operator "<=>" tries to promote arguments from unsigned to signed. This is as boiled down as I can make it. Here is my compilation command: g++-12 -std=c++20 -Wnarrowing bit_field.cpp Here is the code in...

Let's talk about the concept of autonomous AI software engineers and no-code agents. These AIs are designed to manage the entire lifecycle of a software development project—planning, coding, testing, and deployment—without human intervention. Imagine an AI that can take a project description, break it down, write the code, debug it, and then launch it, all on its own.... Now, this would greatly impact the work of software developers. The idea...
