Using Show/Hide to limit Print

i have a web page that uses a javascript function to show/hide some
info using css "visibile" "hidden" attributes of "id". the js was a
free script that i modified for my use. works great.

to make it even better though, i need to print just the info
identified by the span tag's "id". I'm not sure how to do that.

here's more info:
the page has several "id" spans that are initially hidden, when the
page first loads. there are some links in the left margin that, when
clicked invoke the show/hide function for a particular "id".

CSS positioning "shows" the info in a box that sits on top of the
current page. It works great. The box has a different background color
and looks great on screen.

The problem occurs when someone prints the page, expecting to get the
"shown" info. what they really get is the shown info printed on top of
the initial page b/c the default of most printers is to ignore the
background of a page. So my users get a completely illegible page

What I would like to do is have a "Print this info" link inside the
<span id=> tag. I'm guessing that the "print this" link would use
javascript, but also needs to address the "id" of the spanned info.
any idea?
