Relative positioning

I'm trying to come up with a list of uses for relative positioning. Can
anybody think of any I've missed?

* Establishing a local positioning context on an element for the benefit of
its absolutely positioned descendents.

* Overlapping a nearby element (but why not just use negative margins?)

* Cute, but probably useless, animations involving an element flying into
and/or out of its normal position with JavaScript.

I think I'd feel safer with relative positioning then negative margins.
And while I know what you mean, it's worth noting that you may not
always be overlapping another element.

<div class="wrapper">
<img src="foo.png" alt="">Lorem ipsum etc.
</div>

div.wrapper { padding 4em }
div.wrapper img { position: relative; left: -2em }

* Cute, but probably useless, animations involving an element flying
into and/or out of its normal position with JavaScript.

That's one I would not have thought of! ;-)
