ie mac: vertical cell borders missing/jut out

Hi Folks:

I've got a weird phenomenon going on with Internet Explorer on the
Macintosh... The vertical cell borders are missing between the cells but
appear above and below the cells! Here's the page and a screen shot a
friend took for me because I use Windows.

Shot: http://www.bikesummer.org/2003/local/rentals.jpg
Page: http://www.bikesummer.org/2003/local/rentals.php

This JPEG is from an OS X machine, but a friend of mine with an older OS,
I guess OS 9, sees the same thing. I'm guessing they have different
versions of IE.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get the cell borders to show up
between the cells and not above/below? The newsgroup archives produced
nothing.

Thanks so much,

Invalid markup.

Not necessarily. There is no IE for OSX, but OSX users can run OS9 or
earlier software by starting an instance of the old operating system,
if my sister explained it to me correctly.

Start by fixing the markup. With invalid markup, all bets are off on
what effect the css might have.
The newsgroup archives produced nothing.

I'm quite certain that the importance of valid html has been brought
up in ciwas before, but I suppose you weren't looking for that.

She didn't I'm afraid. IE is at version 5.1.7 for OS 8.1 to 9.x and
at 5.2.3 for OS X where it not only runs native but was the default
browser supplied with the OS for versions till at least 10.2.1 (indeed
I think it was the only one supplied unless I have overlooked one). I
should imagine Safari has taken over in the latest releases since it
is Apple's own browser and also Microsoft have ceased development.

IE5.2 and up is there for OSX users only. However, further development
has been discontinued by MicroSoft. 5.1.7 is the latest version for
pre-OSX users.

Good point. Thanks. Fixed. Friends say the problem still exists. Can
other Mac IE users confirm, please?

So, if the vertical cell border projections are still there and the
vertical cell borders aren't showing up between the cells, does anyone
have ideas of what's going on and/or how to fix it?

After some hacking, and help "viewing" them via some Mac enabled friends,
it became apparent that the cell spacing wound up containing the row's
background color. All other browsers tested use the table's background
color for the cell spacing.

Put together a page explaining the problem:
