HTML not coded right for Embedding Windows Media Player

P: n/a
I copied it and tried to edit the movie.htm below in the <PARAM NAME=***
location of the file where the videoclip is on my hard drive. It is already
recorded by Windows Media Player. My version is 9.0 although it is coded
5.0 in this htm file.

Let me know if it is able to be fixed.

*** denotes where it is edited to locate the path where the videoclip is.

Just open the file from MP if you want to play it locally.

Don't use this type of embedding on the web:

Stop trying that. Read the FAQ - you will find the section "Other Media"
useful. If you really, really want to embed a video on a page and that
way throw most sensible people away, use the good old tag. It's
better to use simple nonstandard kludgery than a horrendously messed-up
trickery with cryptic codes, fitted to formally comply with the
syntax.

Jukka,

Embedding is not absolutely necessary. I will go along with anything
possible. I just want to set up a movie clip in .wmv format on my home
webpage for other viewers.

If it costs me a bit to get the code, let me know.
I am eager to get the code because I have already set up my home pc server
and is now running. And I am not familiar with the HTML code for the video.

Spartanicus,

Ok not to use embedding.
At your link : http://www.spartanicus.utvinternet.ie/embed.htm
a snippet of this below may be for me.
<ASX VERSION="3.0">

<REF HREF="http://domain.com/video.wmv" />

</ASX>I am not sure if it is that simple. It looks like I have to put
windows media player in the same folder as video.wmv.

When somebody wants to access to my webpage, they
will have to use my ip address, for example
http://68.39.xxx.xxx/movie.htm since movie.htm is not the default file in my

Can you help me with this?
I have seen it locally. It works, but it is not able to view from other

Jukka,

I began to see what I am doing was wrong.
There is no need to embed player.
Just let others type my home page address/xxx.wmv
Then it will be played on their media player.

Spartanius,

I make an apology. I should have replied to you, instead.
I think this code below gave me an idea, but I dont think I need the code
at all.

1.. Use an ascii editor (for example Notepad) to create a video.wvx file,
for example:
<ASX VERSION="3.0">

<REF HREF="http://domain.com/video.wmv" />

</ASX>

There seems no need for embedding media player on my homepage. Let others
access to my home page i.e http://68.39.xxx.yyy/movie.wmv
xxx.yyy is the rest of my ip address. And then they use their player to
view my movie.

Let me know if I am on right track.
But i am not sure if the code below is needed at all.

Indeed you are. People will decide themselves if they want to play it or
save the file for later use. Just mark it up as Movie

A movie file should be no different from any other type of download.

I am sending another HTML code. I think this is more neat.

This one shows video on my pc's home webpage. When I try other pcs to
access this HOME pc via http://68.39.xxx.xxx/movie2.htm.. it will only show
empty video. Nothing there. I wonder if your able to solve this problem.

Jukka,

I would like to make an apology for all those postings except the very
lastest one. I consider myself plonked, too.
I am asking you or the moderator to delete all those postings of mine; It
looks very messy.

I hope the last posting may remain there for a while. I think it is
better than the previous ones. Somebody would not mind making corrections
for me.

You or others can tell me frankly if the coding (the latest one) is still
hopeless.

Thank You,

Alan

Lose the tag. Seriously. Someone suggested . It's
non-standard, but it works more reliably than .

My personal preference for movies is to use neither of the above as both
try to dictate terms to the end user as to how and when the movie can be
played and what plug-ins may be required.

Just go with a straight up hyperlink. See my previous suggestion. Just
mark it up as you would any other link. Let the end user decide what
they want to do with your movie. Simple.

I am aware that <Embed and <Object are tagged both since some use IE

Now I see what actually happened. I had copied and pasted HTML code right
below "neat" comment. But it was never
posted. That is why you say I get plonked again if I do that again. All the
time I thought it was you who deleted the code in that posting to make it

I could post the code again, but I now feel it is just too long.
I believe it requires one line or two HTML code to display video on webpage.

Beauregard,

May I ask you what webserverpathto is. I feel it is foolish to specify the
ip address there because I have already specified my home ip. For example,
when some visitors want to access to my website, they type in http://myhome

It is not clear why I have to specify the webserverpathto in ip again in the

Bear with me.

It appears that my pc and other pc(s) cannot locate that movie file at all.

right
below "neat" comment. But it was never
posted. That is why you say I get plonked again if I do that again. All
the
time I thought it was you who deleted the code in that posting to make it look less messy.

I could post the code again, but I now feel it is just too long.
I believe it requires one line or two HTML code to display video on
webpage.

1) Please do not top-post. Put your responses after what you reply to.

2) Rather than post a page of code, upload it to a server (a free one,
even) and post the URL.

Quoth the raven named alan b:
Beauregard,

Watch mysatvideomovie.
It did not work; It prompted with DOWNLOAD dialog;
The object of the code here is to allow the visitor to control what to
do with the movie. You are not in control.
Then I typed in below replacing video with My Videos path

satvideomovie.

It did not work either because it prompted with Download Dialog,
again.

When you said "Type in serverpath, I used my ip address.
Use relative URL and path. You don't need the whole domain name. Not:

...

Instead:
...

Why are you using an IP address?
I will not top post it.

But you still are top posting. Please post your replies /under/ the
related quote (after trimming unnecessary parts), such as I am doing.

Your reply : ...
Is exactly what I have been trying to do.

My movie file is the directory:c:\My Documents and Settings\alan\My
Documents\My Videos\satvideo.wmv.

That whole above is "directory". Is that correct?

a href=c:/My Documents and Settings/alan/My Documents/My Videos/satvideo.wmv
??? BlackSlashes instead of ForwardSlashes?
